A proposed California law would allow people to smash out a car window if a dog is suffering inside a hot vehicle. The bill is in response to a growing number of incidents involving pets being left in hot cars. The bill, named the "The Right to Rescue Act” (Assembly Bill 797) would legally allow Good Samaritans to smash a window or use other means to rescue dogs who are left in hot vehicles. The Assembly members who proposed the bill went so far as making a video of themselves sitting in a hot car for 21 minutes to show the dangers. ABC7 spoke with a few Californians about the proposed bill and most spoke out in support of it. "I'd rather have the ability to do it rather than not do it. It's more important to help the dog than it is to worry about people's feelings," Randall Whittinghill of Silver Lake said. A similar bill was signed into law in Florida last month . This story might make you cry. A few years ago, this story first hit the internet, and it’s been making it’s way around for a while. This couple were having a baby, and the two dogs that they had gave the husband a little bit of worry. Zach, a Pit Bull and Labrador mix, was known to nip at the husband and play kind of rough. The husband worried that the dog was going to be too rough and hurt their new baby. He needn’t have worried though, because from day one, Zach was in love with the newborn. He was there every night, at the foot of her stairs, ready to walk her to bed. One day some neighbor kids poisoned Zach. When he passed, the girl didn’t know what to do, and was scared to go to bed. Let’s talk about two things before we get to the cream of the story. Military personnel and military dogs. Military personnel go through rigorous training, but they never give up. Take an example of this female army captain who collapsed on the ground. When it comes to military dogs, they are the real heroes because where people can’t go, they go. What people can’t sniff out, they can. They don’t think twice when they’re asked to do something. This post is about Randy, a military personnel and his service dog Captain. Things aren’t always what they appear to be, and sometimes that can be a very good thing. Recently, some people found what they thought to be a dog abandoned in a park in Liverpool. After not so long, though, they realized that the little creature they’d just rescued was, in reality, a fox! An amazing event took place in Indonesia last week. The International Rhino Foundation  made an announcement that one of their Sumatran rhinos, a female named Ratu, just gave birth to a female rhino calf. Think that doesn’t necessarily qualify as “amazing”? Sumatran rhinos are the single most endangered mammal on the planet. Gorgi is a police dog, but he’s far from your average anything. Last year Gorgi showed up outside a police command center in Bayamón, Puerto Rico . He was very obviously malnourished and showed signs of having been abused. Despite that, Gorgi was one of the friendliest pups that any of the officers had ever seen. The officers began to really grow attached to the dog, so they pooled their money, got him a checkup at the vet, and adopted him as a station. Sometimes animal rescue facilities, try as they might, just can’t manage to save everyone. The main problem for most facilities is overcrowding. Almost any shelter for dogs or cats has suffered or is currently suffering from massive overcrowding problems. There’s simply too many animals out there and not enough homes. That was the problem at a shelter in Constanta, Romania where Angus arrived after being attacked by another dog. The shelter authorities didn’t have any space for animals, and they made a difficult decision. Angus, along with 150 other dogs, would be euthanized over a three day period. Dogs can sometimes be heartbreakingly loyal. This little girl waited by the door to her home for days. She sat there, not moving, just crying for her owner to let her in. But that wouldn’t happen because her owner had moved away, abandoning the dog to fend for herself. Luckily, a neighbor saw the dog, crying on the doorstep of its previous home in Fresno, California, and the neighbor made a plea to Facebook, trying desperately to find help for the dog. A woman named Shirley Martindale-Horner responded to the call and picked the dog up. She brought her to a groomer because her hair had gotten impossibly long. She later named the dog Aubrey, and Aubrey drew quite a following on the Internet. Baby goats, or kids, are adorable. Most baby animals are, in case you haven’t noticed. Some baby goats live in wonderfully happy conditions, like these two kids who are dressed in impossibly cute pajamas while they run around and get ready for bed. But, not all kids get such good lives. Six months ago a very special kid was born, and for quite some time it looked like he wasn’t going to live very long. He was born with only two front legs. Amazingly, though, the kid managed to pull through, and he learned how to get along in life. His is quite the story, and you can learn oh so much more about it by checking out the video below! Animal Aid Unlimited really does amazing work to help out animals in need. Without them countless animals would be living much harder lives, or, horribly, they might not be living at all. These guys are life improvers and life savers, and it’s time for you to meet one of the animals that they’ve helped. Who is that? Well, her name is Happy. Animal Aid Unlimited found her in a garden after she’d suffered an intense head injury. For quite a while, the organization didn’t know if she’d be able to pull through and survive. Things were touch and go for about two weeks, but a major breakthrough came in Happy’s third week of treatment. Watch her recovery in the video below! Take a look! Jes is a member of PETA, and she feels incredibly strongly about the animals in her life. For years, one such animal was a dog named Edith. Jes saw Edith chained up day after day, so she started visiting the poor dog. She would bring the loving pooch treats, food, water, and once she even brought a doghouse to the trapped dog. Then, one day Edith’s family moved and took the dog with them. PETA spent a lot of time and energy tracking Edith down, and in March of 2016 her owner’s officially gave Edith to PETA because they were moving once again. This is an incredible and touching story, and if you check out the video below you can watch it all in close detail, and I’m sure that you’ll fall in love with Edith just the way that Jes did. We all know that humans sometimes take time to care for animals in need. We see stories about it everywhere, and many of us probably spend some of our time volunteering to care for animals. But what some people might not know is that animals take their time to care for one another, too. Pumpkin is a cat with a huge heart. She lives at an animal shelter, and she also works there full time. When new animals come in, all scared and sad, Pumpkin spends time with each of them. She curls up next to the new arrivals and gives them cuddles and love. This reminds those animals that no matter how hard life can get, they will always find love somewhere. Take a look at this video! Pumpkin is a very special cat indeed, and it’s hard to imagine how big of an impact she must have of the lives of animals that are arriving at her shelter. Kids sometimes have amazingly instantaneous connections with animals. That’s the case with Skye, who is a little girl with her very own Shetland pony. The pony’s name is Gucci, and it loves Skye more than anyone in the entire world. These two make quite the team! They ride through fields and even perform tricks together. Skye loves her horse, and she’s very careful to take care of it properly. She keeps her horse brushed and clean, and she even cleans out the stables! That’s more responsibility than some people who are twice her age. Shetland ponies are fairly small, usually 28-42 inches tall, and they tend to make the perfect horses to teach kids how to ride on. That’s certainly the case with Skye and Gucci, who are learning and growing together. Take a look at this video! These two are definitely going to be the best of friends throughout both their lives. Turtles can live for a long, long time. Anyone who’s seen Finding Nemo can tell you that, and they probably don’t need to. It’s more than likely that you’re well aware of this fact. What you might not know, though, is that turtles can DO a whole lot, even when they’re very old. Meet Nigrita. She’s an eighty year old Galapagos tortoise, and she lives in the Zoo Zürich in Switzerland. But you’ll never believe this: She’s also a new mother. Galapagos tortoises, amazingly, have children very frequently even when they’re this old. What is a little crazy, though, is that all nine of Nigrita’s babies are completely healthy and doing well! That’s good news because the Galapagos tortoise is currently on the endangered species list. Because of that Nigrita is part of a breeding program at her zoo that will hopefully raise the number of tortoises in the world.
