Animal Lovers

It’s a cruel statistic, but it’s a statistic we all need to hear. Over 3.9 million dogs will end up in animal shelters across the United States every year. 3.9 million. What’s even more tragic is that around a third of those dogs will be euthanized because there isn’t enough dog owners out there willing to adopt these dogs. There’s hope, however. Organizations all over the country are thinking of creative ways to shed light on this problem to the public. One of these organizations, The Human Society of Utah, decided to take photos of shelter dogs in order to showcase their loving personality. It’s the organization’s hope that these photos will show potential dog owners that it’s better to adopt a shelter dog in need rather than buy. What all these dogs need is love. Amanda Jones  has dedicated the past 20 years to an incredible photography project which aims to show just how fleeting the lives of our beloved pets are. We’ve all had that odd feeling that a lively puppy seems to turn into a fully-grown, wise old dog over night. Some of them barely change at all, others begin to show some signs of age. Dogs in particular age faster than us, of course, and perhaps that’s why the following photos are a bit sad as well as very sweet. But we can always take comfort in the knowledge that, however old they are, the joy we get from that bond with our best friend never diminishes.
