When you walk into a shelter for dogs, you instantly see a lot of dogs, all perhaps living with the hopes that maybe someday someone will come for them. Of course and I believe that, but it was this particular dog who got picked instead.  You know what this post will prove to you? It will prove that a picture is worth a million words. Truly, this has given me hope! This photo went so viral than it literally saved this little pup’s life. How? The Hope For Paws organization was yet on another rescue mission to save this abandoned dog from the river. An hour isn’t enough time for a newly adopted dog to become accustomed to a new home. Most reasonable people know that. But a senior dog in Gardena, California was only given an hour at his new home before he was returned to the shelter. Wally , a nine-year-old pit bull mix is staying at the Carson Animal Services facility again waiting for someone to give him a forever home. He just needs a chance to fit in. The people who returned him said that Wally seemed too upset after leaving the shelter. He needs help from a reputable rescue or a loving home. One morning, the Sacramento SPCA staff found a pit bull mom and her 10 newborn puppies on their doorstep. The pups were only a few days old, and the mother dog was still bleeding, which meant she had been left at the shelter shortly after having given birth. They were left at the shelter without food or water or any explanation for why they were being abandoned. Freya was called “the loneliest dog in the UK” after not being chosen for adoption 18,000 times in her six-year stay at Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool. Freya has lived at Freshfield for her entire life and has epilepsy. The staff at Freshfields was almost certain she wouldn’t be given a forever home. Having a new baby is exciting and stressful! You have to prepare yourselves and your house. You have nine months to get ready for the new bundle of joy. Spice, a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix was dropped at the shelter when her human family had a baby. Workers at Saving Carson Shelter Dogs wrote on their Facebook page saying they saw the look on Spice’s face when her family left her in the cart and drove off with the baby. Spice is heartbroken. They say Spice is confused and terrified. While many people may be sad and even upset about this story – at least the family dropped her off at a shelter – not tied to a fence or left on the side of the road. If you think that only humans get bullied, its time we all learned the sad truth – even animals get bullied and its not pretty. Lamont, a depressed mixed breed senior is suffering right now at the Fulton County Animal Services facility in Atlanta, Georgia and he needs your help. During his stay at the animal facility, Lamont has become more depressed, and rightly so, because he doesn’t know when he’d go home. Earlier this week the Facebook page , Susie’s Senior Dogs, stated that Lamont had become unresponsive because he’s extremely depressed and as if that’s not enough the senior dog is being bullied by other resident dogs. He has since been moved into a kennel with other seniors, but of course that’s not what Lamont wants – he wants a home and a loving family. Lamont is a 7 year old 48 pound retriever mix who is very affectionate and loves being close to people. For a dog named Drove, the day felt like any other at the shelter. He lay on his comfy pillow, curled up in a nap, just like he had so many times in the past six months he'd been there. He couldn't possibly have known that this afternoon would be different — and that his new parents were waiting right outside to meet him. Drove came to the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby (HSM&S) in October after its cruelty investigator found him tied up in an abandoned house. The terrier mix, who's now 5, quickly became popular with the shelter staff. "One of my favorite things about him is how, if you're sitting there petting him and you stop, he'll nudge your hand to get you to keep petting him," Katie Pemberton, marketing and communications manager at the HSM&S, told The Dodo. Sometimes, the most beautiful dogs are just born under a bad sign. Like Tully, a 77-pound pit bull who is all about the love. Just not at all about the kennel. But such was Tully's luck to be picked up as a stray on the streets of Long Island and brought to the local shelter. His howling disdain for being in any space with a gate was such a severe issue, it may have even been the end of him. "He just did not do well," Elyse Giurco, founder of Road to Home Rescue Support , tells The Dodo. "Some dogs can handle being kenneled. Some cannot. He did not do well." Still, Tully would spend too many months in the kennel he loathed so much — until Giurco heard about the dog who refused to be locked up. "I went and met him and fell in love with him," she tells The Dodo. "So we pulled him." And, for a while, it seemed the luckless dog may have finally found a little grace. Greg Mahle is the man behind Rescue Road Trips. He travels around the south, going to animal shelters that have high kill rates (which happens when there just isn’t anywhere for the dogs to go). Greg picks up as many dogs as he can, and takes them from the south back up to New England. He says that in all, the average trip takes about a week, but that’s all worth it for Greg. He says that the best part of the job is handing one of the dogs to a child who’s just now getting their first pet. He also says that his first dog taught him out to be a better person. Greg is an incredible person, and according to him, he’s in this business because he loves dogs, and he loves bringing joy to people. Take a look at this video! I’m sure they all love him, too. Amy is a six year old pit bull who is absolutely terrified after she was surrendered by her family to the Carson Animal Services facility in Gardena, California. The family told the shelter that they were surrendering Amy because they were moving and they didn’t want to take Amy with them. After years of company, this is how this family repays Amy’s loyalty and love. Unbelievable. It has been a little over a week since Amy was surrendered, but she’s still scared and feels completely lonely despite being surrounded by other fur balls and volunteers. When you rescue a dog, you’re saving them from a terrible fate. Spending the rest of their lives in shelters isn’t how any dog was meant to life. But for one family, the dog that they took home ended up giving back a lot more than they expected. Charlie was a large dog who was dropped off at a shelter because his family no longer had time for him. It showed too, as he was thirty pounds overweight, to the point where he would have seizures from panting too hard. When shelters become full, it’s a gamble to figure out which dogs aren’t going to make it. Most shelters choose the dogs that have been there the longest, while other shelters use other criteria to determine which dogs should be euthanized. Holly was a dog who had just been pulled from the shelter, and was scheduled to be euthanized because she was pregnant and they didn’t have room for her and all of her puppies. A few days after taking her in, she gave birth to her puppies, all five of them, and they were doing quite well. The video documents a few stages of their development until they were up and about and ready to play with anyone they met. Take a look at this video! If things aren’t working out between two humans, they will make an effort to make things work because that’s the way of life, but sadly for a dog, that’s not the case. If things doesn’t work out, they’re surrendered to a shelter without being given a chance to explain or show how much they love and care of their family. This is the story of a dog called March, a dog who was surrendered without notice by his new family. The staff at ACCT Philly were very happy to learn that one of their resident dogs is finally going to their forever loving home. Being at a shelter should be a good time for a stray dog who doesn’t have a home of his own. It’s a chance to become better adjusted to people and find the forever homes that they need. But when they’re constantly being passed up by people who come into the shelter, it starts to take a toll on them. Grant is a homeless dog who has only been at the shelter for a few days, but it already looks like he’s giving up on the will to live. From his appearance, life hasn’t been good to him, as he has discharge from his eyes, he has signs of being starved, and he’s missing hair from his back and tail. Take a look at this image Perhaps he just needs an extra love and care to get back up on his feet again, and hopefully a new parent or foster parent can take him home to raise his spirits. There are some dogs who will never catch a break and have a good day in their lives. Whether it’s because they’re strays or are being abused, they may never know the meaning of true happiness. It’s thanks to the efforts of those who work in shelters that can make their lives easier. A ten year old dog was recently brought in to a shelter, barely skin and bones. His muscles were atrophied and his ribs and hips were clearly sticking out. There’s clearly a medical reason for his emaciation and the shelter staff are trying desperately to discover what it is so that they can get him the proper treatment. It may take some time before he’s fully recovered, but at least he’ll learn the meaning of what it is to be loved by a human being. Picking just one dog from a shelter can be a horrible choice. You know that there are some dogs who have been there for a long time, while others are in desperate need to be removed from the shelter. So how do you make that difficult choice? For this woman, she didn’t have to. Danielle Eden is the founder of the Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary and has rescued hundreds of dogs who were in terrible situations and brought them to the shelter in King, Ontario.
