When you walk into a shelter for dogs, you instantly see a lot of dogs, all perhaps living with the hopes that maybe someday someone will come for them. Of course and I believe that, but it was this particular dog who got picked instead.  You know what this post will prove to you? It will prove that a picture is worth a million words. Truly, this has given me hope! This photo went so viral than it literally saved this little pup’s life. How? Mauco Abeiro, 9, was outside playing with his little brother last week near their home in Guaymallen, Argentina, when the boys came across an injured dog. The dog looked like it had a broken leg. Mauco carried the dog back home even though his family had very little to survive on. Marco’s mother, Laura, said she told her boys they could not have pets because they were in a bad economic situation themselves. Mauco told his mother that he would sell his skateboard and take this dog to the vet. Mauco went on Facebook to sell the skateboard , one of his favorite toys. He simply asked for someone to buy his skateboard from him. He said he found the poor dog on the street and it was hurt. If someone could buy his skateboard, he could take the injured dog to the vet. Not many people were interested in the skateboard, but Mauco’s post did go viral. It was shared thousands of times. An hour isn’t enough time for a newly adopted dog to become accustomed to a new home. Most reasonable people know that. But a senior dog in Gardena, California was only given an hour at his new home before he was returned to the shelter. Wally , a nine-year-old pit bull mix is staying at the Carson Animal Services facility again waiting for someone to give him a forever home. He just needs a chance to fit in. The people who returned him said that Wally seemed too upset after leaving the shelter. He needs help from a reputable rescue or a loving home. Having a new baby is exciting and stressful! You have to prepare yourselves and your house. You have nine months to get ready for the new bundle of joy. Spice, a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix was dropped at the shelter when her human family had a baby. Workers at Saving Carson Shelter Dogs wrote on their Facebook page saying they saw the look on Spice’s face when her family left her in the cart and drove off with the baby. Spice is heartbroken. They say Spice is confused and terrified. While many people may be sad and even upset about this story – at least the family dropped her off at a shelter – not tied to a fence or left on the side of the road. For a dog named Drove, the day felt like any other at the shelter. He lay on his comfy pillow, curled up in a nap, just like he had so many times in the past six months he'd been there. He couldn't possibly have known that this afternoon would be different — and that his new parents were waiting right outside to meet him. Drove came to the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby (HSM&S) in October after its cruelty investigator found him tied up in an abandoned house. The terrier mix, who's now 5, quickly became popular with the shelter staff. "One of my favorite things about him is how, if you're sitting there petting him and you stop, he'll nudge your hand to get you to keep petting him," Katie Pemberton, marketing and communications manager at the HSM&S, told The Dodo. Sometimes, the most beautiful dogs are just born under a bad sign. Like Tully, a 77-pound pit bull who is all about the love. Just not at all about the kennel. But such was Tully's luck to be picked up as a stray on the streets of Long Island and brought to the local shelter. His howling disdain for being in any space with a gate was such a severe issue, it may have even been the end of him. "He just did not do well," Elyse Giurco, founder of Road to Home Rescue Support , tells The Dodo. "Some dogs can handle being kenneled. Some cannot. He did not do well." Still, Tully would spend too many months in the kennel he loathed so much — until Giurco heard about the dog who refused to be locked up. "I went and met him and fell in love with him," she tells The Dodo. "So we pulled him." And, for a while, it seemed the luckless dog may have finally found a little grace. Here’s a police officer who has gone above and beyond. Through her job she protects the people of her community, and off the clock she’s helping out animals in need. Officer Ashley Accord was at a vacant home in Baltimore when she saw signs of activity. As no one was supposed to be there, Ashley called for backup. It turned out that she had no reason to worry. The only thing there was an abandoned gray and white terrier mix. She said that the dog was aggressive and just wanted affection from her. She took him to the local animal shelter and bonded with him on the journey. Right away she put in an application to adopt the little guy. His family never came to collect him, so Ashley happily brought him into her home. Humans aren’t the only ones able to come back from remarkable hardship. A puppy now named Crosby was found in a park with bowed front legs. This is a condition known as knuckling which is normally a credited to malnutrition in animals. Crosby was soon put into a foster home after being found however and his new home instantly gave the perfect setting of love and care for the young puppy. Treatment for his bowed legs was of course the first priority of the new family and shortly after coming into their care his legs were put into casts to begin the process of correcting his condition. After several trying months, for both parties involved, Crosby’s legs showed significant improvement and his condition continued to get better. Take a look at this video! This is the story of a 4 year old Labrador pup called Wolfy who had a family, a place to stay, people to love her, people she could love, but days later bad things happened. Today this poor fur ball is scared, lonely, depressed, confused and homeless. Her family moved, Wolfy didn’t, instead she came straight to the Downey Animal Care Center in California. The family didn’t offer any reason as to why the fur ball was surrendered instead of being taken, but it’s clear they didn’t want her anymore. Wolfy stayed with her family for over an year, but now it was time to say goodbye to them. This fur ball is house trained, she’s polite with children and she’s good on a leash too. UPDATE : ADOPTED! It can be a difficult time going to a shelter and finding a dog to take home with you. Seeing all of their beautiful faces and winning dispositions makes it hard to leave with just one. But Obi, the fluffy-faced German Shepherd hasn’t yet found his forever home. He was found wandering the streets and was taken to an animal control facility, where his family never came to claim him. He was then taken in by the Southern California German Shepherd Rescue, thinking that he would have a better chance with them. Sadly, he’s still there a year later, and at the ripe age of seven, is still looking for a forever home . Senior dogs in shelters don’t have the best opportunities to find the loving homes that they deserve. People look at their age and decide that they don’t want a dog for a short period of time, or one that already has a lot of problems. But Chris and Mariesa fell in love with him instantly and they’re happy that they decided to take him home. DaVinci is believed to be about ten or twelve, and was rescued from the streets of Albany, New York by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. Once they brought him home, they changed his name to Dave and discovered a wonderful plethora of things that he loves to do. He does have some trouble getting around, but he still enjoys every minute of being with the people and other canine siblings that he loves. Taking a dog home from the shelter is an exciting time for everyone involved. The dog gets to benefit the most from finding a new home, especially if he’s spent a long time in the shelter. So when Fido the pit bull is finally adopted and gets to go home, he never expected that this would happen. Fido got to tell his whole story from shelter to his new home in the form of a song, and a very famous song, in fact. He’d even been to some other adoption homes before, and they just didn’t work out, until he finally found his forever parent to take him home. Some people are such perfectionists that they want everything that surrounds them to be perfect, whether human, thing or animal. It’s obvious that when such people met Yoda the cat, they didn’t even want to see him because he was different, or in their terms, not perfect. Why Yoda? Because this cat has four ears, that’s why. But thankfully for Yoda, there were some people who fell in love with him instantly. They adopted the cat and named him Yoda. They loved Yoda from the bottom of their hearts and this is why they shared a story on a social media platform and it went viral. Nobody could believe that this cat actually HAD four ears! UPDATE : ADOPTED On Friday, Bear's world broke into a million tiny pieces. If one can imagine Bear's owner smugly walking into the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys, California, with his dog on a leash and announcing to the shelter staff, "I would like to donate my dog to your shelter." A volunteer tearfully watched the dog's face change into a painful look of fright, as if he knew something terrible was about to happen. "We watched as he took selfies with the dog kissing his face while telling the ACT that the dog was taking too much room and that he just lives on the side of the house ever since the new baby came," noted the volunteer. And to add to the litany of excuses why Bear was no longer wanted in the family, the dog's owner admitted to having kept the dog in his kennel all alone and isolated on the side of the house. UPDATE : We have some excellent news to report on Bobby!! He has been saved!! The rescue group Big Dog Ranch Rescue, www.facebook.com/bigdogranchrescue/?fref=ts , has agreed to pull him from the shelter!! Losing all hope of ever having a home, one-year-old Bobby still wears the green Christmas sweater volunteers at the shelter dressed him up in, with hopes he would attract the attention of a family looking to adopt a very sweet dog. On December 16, his family betrayed him and walked him into the Miami-Dade Animal Care Center, removed his leash and walked away. And now two months later, Bobby is listed as "code red" because everyone has passed him by. He has broken the hearts of the staff and volunteers alike; all this little guy does is sit with his head down at the gate of his kennel. Scottish SPCA via Facebook An adorable 7-month-old continental giant rabbit named Atlas needs a new home.  He's about the size of a dog (westie) right now and will keep growing, according to the Scottish SPCA . The SPCA's center in Glasgow put out a call on social media, saying they are looking for a specific home for Atlas based on his size and breed. He's been described as loving attention and cuddles and making people laugh with his mischievous demeanor. "A standard rabbit hutch won’t do so his new owner will need plenty of space for him. Atlas needs an owner with the knowledge to properly care for him, so ideally someone who has kept a continental giant before," said Anna O’Donnell, manager of the center.
