Dog Left Behind When Owners Moved Didn't Even Look Like A Dog

After her tenants left without notice, a landlord in New Hampshire went to investigate an abandoned apartment ... and discovered what they had left behind.

The landlord found a little shih tzu, who barely even looked like a dog at all. He had clearly been severely neglected, and his fur was so matted that he could hardly walk. It was later discovered that the dog, thought to be about 3 years old, was also deaf and blind — the latter likely from scratching his eyes so much due to the matting.

He was found bumping into things and attempting to eat whatever he could find lying around on the floor. The Londonderry Police Department responded to the scene and took the first steps in getting the dog the help he so desperately needed.

"I don't believe that the dog was abandoned for more than a few weeks," Chris Olson of the Londonderry Police Department told The Dodo." By all accounts, the dog is very gentle and affectionate with humans. There are no signs of physical abuse to the dog. It appears all of the ailments came from extensive neglect."

The dog was immediately rushed to a local veterinary hospital and treated for dislocated knee caps, an infected skin mass and anemia. Once his matted fur had been shaved off, he didn't even like the same dog — but still looked incredibly defeated.

The tenants of the apartment, Jada Demas and Jennifer Moscardini, were later found and arrested for multiple counts of animal abuse.

"Neighbors who heard the two women speak of the dog knew him to be named 'Puppy,'" Olson said.

The dog is now being fostered while he heals from his injuries, and hopefully can now begin his long journey of learning how to love again.

It's not known whether the dog will eventually go up for adoption or not, but you can contact the police department through its Facebook page.

“I’m Not Leaving You, Mama!” This is What Love Looks Like.

UPDATE: Lizzie and Phantom are currently recovering in an outdoor koala ward within the  Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital . They’re doing swimmingly; Phantom is both gaining weight and exploring his temporary habitat. And of course, mama and baby are sharing more adorable cuddles! For most species in the animal kingdom, the bond between mother and baby is incredibly strong. That's pretty much inarguable. But last week, two koalas in Australia further proved it. After they were hit by a car, Lizzie and her joey, Phantom were welcomed into the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Six-month-old Phantom had escaped the accident unscathed. Lizzie, however, wasn’t looking so good, what with facial trauma and a collapsed lung. In order to survive, she needed to go under the surgeon’s knife. But this marsupial mama wasn’t alone during the life-saving procedure. Phantom accompanied her and clung to her as she received treatment. The vets let them be; Phantom was too y...

Tesco: Ditch palm oil in your own-brand products!

>>>SIGN PETITION HERE<<< My name is Oscar, I’m 15 and I want to do everything I can to protect our environment .  I was really upset and angry when I found out about the huge deforestation that is involved in the palm oil industry,  and that’s why I’m calling on Tesco to ditch palm oil from their own-brand products. Iceland has already banned palm oil from their own brand products, so we know that this is possible for Tesco too. As the largest supermarket in the UK (and using over 40,000 tonnes of palm oil every year!), Tesco has an opportunity to set an example to other supermarkets and food producers that  destroying swathes of forests for palm oil is not acceptable. I run a online cause called ‘Justice4Earth’ ( @justice4earth  on Instagram and  @justice4earth  on Twitter) where I raise awareness about environmental issues. I found out that palm oil is literally everywhere: from shampoos, toothpastes and detergen...

SIGN NOW! BAN THE SALE OF CRUEL ‘LIVE ANIMAL’ KEYCHAINS

>>> Sign the petition now to tell China to ban live animal keychains! <<< Turtles, fish and lizards are being stuffed and sealed into plastic bags and sold on the streets as keychains in China. The cost of these animals lives? About $1.50. Swimming in a small pool of colored water, the animals only last until the oxygen is used up. Then, they can theoretically be released and kept as pets – although it’s doubtful that the same people who think an animal makes a nifty trinket have the slightest clue about how to properly care for them. In an interview with CNN, David Neale, animal welfare director of Animals Asia said, “Lack of food and diminishing oxygen concentrations within both the water and the small amount of air in these plastic pouches will cause the animals to die in a relatively short period of time after the pouches are sealed.” 😠So Cruel😠 ACTUAL REAL LIVE ANIMALS are being sealed into tiny plastic pouches and sold as f**king ke...
