Nasty: Sox the staff-cross almost died |
A puppy almost bled to death after eating a knuckle bone from Home Bargains.
Sox, an 18-month-old staffy-cross, ate the bone over the weekend but then started to vomit blood.
His concerned owner Kirsty Mills, 27, his didn’t realise the product, called Lola’s Knuckle Bone, had caused the damage and rushed him to the vets from her home in Beechwood, Wirral.
Having been vomiting since 3am, Sox had an emergency operation on Tuesday, the Liverpool Echo reports.
His stomach was opened and vets found 75 sharp splinters of the bone cutting into the lining.

Recovery: The dog had to be rushed to surgery |
She said: “He’s usually hyper, so I knew something was wrong, but it didn’t even come to my mind that it was the bone.
“I prepared the kids for the worst, we didn’t think he was going to make it.
“All of us have gone through such heartache in the last 24 hours – those bones should not be sold to dogs.”
The bone cost less than £1 but Sox’s treatment is costing the family more than £250.
Their bones were bought in New Brighton.

Product: The shop that sold the item is investigating |
“Owners trust that it should be safe, I’m angry and upset. How many more families have gone through this?
“Any donations to PDSA Kirkdale or Huyton would be much appreciated, they do an amazing job and, if it wasn’t for them, Sox would be dead.”
A spokesman for Home Bargains said: “We are currently investigating this matter.
“Our supplier has confirmed that this is an extremely isolated incident and that the item’s packaging features a warning about how it is a natural bone product and could therefore splinter.
"We will keep the customer updated.”
