From hedgehogs to snakes - pets in Lima get married on Valentine's Day

In Jose Luis Bustamante Park, Lima, pet-owners brought their beloved animals to get married and legalize unions, that in many cases, had produced offspring before the nuptials.

Some dressed for the occasion others came in the buff wearing what mother nature provided them.

The event also aims to help educate people about the importance of cleaning up after their pets in public places, such as gardens, streets and parks.

The owners received a wedding certificate from the district of San Isidro that included paw prints of the bride and groom.

This "festival" is an event that starts on June 21st of every year during the summer solstice and it lasts for 10 long horrifying days in which 10,000–15,000 dogs (as well as cats) are tortured and then consumed. A larger percentage of these dogs consist of pets stolen right from their loving families. The rest of the dogs are captured strays from the streets and some raised in dog farms.
