Newlyweds Cancel Honeymoon To Save An Injured Stray Puppy; Now They Need Our Help

A honeymoon should be the best time for a newly married couple. It’s a chance for them to get away from the world and dedicate their attentions to each other. Romantic getaways to tropical islands are always the best choice to ensure that no one is interrupting their time together.

But one couple didn’t bargain for this little interruption and it turned out being the best one they could imagine.

Nicole Marchment and Darren Budin were taking their honeymoon trip to Thailand, and decided for a change of pace. Instead of lounging on the warm beaches, they decided to accompany a local woman who had given herself the task of feeding the local stray dogs.

It was during these rounds that they noticed a small puppy wander up for some food. The local woman told them at the puppy had been hit by a scooter a week ago and hadn’t received veterinary care.

The pup had a broken leg, a distended stomach, and various other ailments that required medical attention.

The local woman eventually wrapped the dog up in a towel and thrust the puppy into their arms, telling them to take him.

They named the puppy Ozzie and provided him with a bath, removed the ticks from his body, and even got him his first collar and toy.

But they still had no way to get the puppy the right treatment. So they gave up on their honeymoon and took a six-hour drive to find a surgeon who could work on the poor pup. But the end of his surgery wasn’t the end of his story.

Due to the strict laws of Australia, they couldn’t take the pooch home with them, so an American who had heard about their story decided to foster Ozzie in the meantime.

But during the quarantine period, Ozzie developed mange and an MRSA infection that needed treatment. His problems seemed to compound from there on, as the metal rod that had been inserted into his leg started to twist and was threatening to have his leg amputated.

During this time, Ozzie went to stay with another friend in Wisconsin who would continue to foster him until Nicole and Darren could raise the funds to bring Ozzie home with them. Share away, people.

“I’m Not Leaving You, Mama!” This is What Love Looks Like.

UPDATE: Lizzie and Phantom are currently recovering in an outdoor koala ward within the  Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital . They’re doing swimmingly; Phantom is both gaining weight and exploring his temporary habitat. And of course, mama and baby are sharing more adorable cuddles! For most species in the animal kingdom, the bond between mother and baby is incredibly strong. That's pretty much inarguable. But last week, two koalas in Australia further proved it. After they were hit by a car, Lizzie and her joey, Phantom were welcomed into the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. Six-month-old Phantom had escaped the accident unscathed. Lizzie, however, wasn’t looking so good, what with facial trauma and a collapsed lung. In order to survive, she needed to go under the surgeon’s knife. But this marsupial mama wasn’t alone during the life-saving procedure. Phantom accompanied her and clung to her as she received treatment. The vets let them be; Phantom was too y...

The Sound Of This Baby Rhino Wailing After Its Mother Was Killed By Poachers Will Haunt You

It’s one of the most sorrowful sounds you’ll ever hear, but it’s also a sad reality check for anyone who thinks protected species are safe from illegal poaching. In a video released this in July, a baby rhino named Davi cries for his mother after she was shot and killed by poachers. Most rhinos spend at least three years with their mothers before weaning,  the Dodo  reports, but Davi’s childhood was cut short at just 8 months old. The baby rhino stood close by his mother’s lifeless body until rescuers arrived. They fitted her with earplugs and a blindfold to calm his anxiety on the way to The Rhino Orphanage in South Africa. It was there that Davi spent the night crying. “His calls for mom echoed deeply and urgently throughout the night, but two carers have been with him every step of the way,”  caretakers posted . “At least he is in good physical condition [and] has no injuries...
