It can be difficult for some mothers to give birth to their babies, whether it’s through physical makeup or stress. And animals are no different. So when this mother gorilla had some trouble at the Bristol Zoo, her keepers stepped in to help her out. The mother gorilla was showing symptoms of preeclampsia, where there is high blood pressure and protein in the urine.

This can put both the mother’s and baby’s lives in danger, so medical attention was required immediately. The mother gorilla underwent and emergency caesarean in order to save both their lives. The tiny baby weighed only 2 pounds and 10 ounces, and the video goes to show just how tiny and frail he is.

However, he was born not breathing, so the staff stayed with it for hours, providing contact and warmth, which proved to be beneficial in the end. Share away, people!
