Dog Struck By Car While Trying To Protect Companion Who Had Been Hit By Car

Two dogs were severely injured by cars the other day. Stella was struck by a car and was so injured that she couldn’t stand up and move away from the scene. Luckily, she had a little hero to help her out. Romeo guarded Stella, loyally and heartbreakingly.

While he stood over her, he, too, was hit by a car in a sick twist of fate. Rescuers soon arrived and rushed the two to the fate. Sadly, Stella would not be able to make a recovery, and she had to be humanely put down. Romeo, the little hero, however, even after flying three car lengths after the impact, is going to be just fine.

It’s one of the most sorrowful sounds you’ll ever hear, but it’s also a sad reality check for anyone who thinks protected species are safe from illegal poaching. In a video released this in July, a baby rhino named Davi cries for his mother after she was shot and killed by poachers. Most rhinos spend at least three years with their mothers before weaning, the Dodo reports, but Davi’s childhood was cut short at just 8 months old.
