If you’ve ever watched the show ‘Hoarders’, you know that people can get themselves so attached to stuff that their house gets filled to the brim with, well, garbage. This isn’t just gross, it’s a terrible health hazard.
Not only have the owners of these filth-filled homes been hurt just because of the overwhelming mess, but they usually have a menagerie of animals who live with them. We know that hoarding is an illness, but it’s always difficult to feel empathy when you see the lasting health problems that the individuals – and their pets – have to endure.
Especially when animals are involved, a certain amount of cleaning up is absolutely essential, people! In these homes, litter doesn’t get changed, urine doesn’t get wiped up, and rotting food never gets thrown out. Not only does it smell terrible, but the mold, particles, and bug infestations can cause huge health issues that sometimes can’t be reversed, especially for the elderly.
This beautiful kitty named Forrest is a living example of how bad it can be.
He’s 20 years old, an advanced age for felines no matter what, but he – along with his brother – had been rescued by Buddy Dog Humane Society in Sudbury, MA. They had rescued him from a hoarders home, and though they were placed in foster care, his brother passed and he was put back in a shelter… because he needs to be monitored at all times.

Luckily, the people who are caring for him don’t just monitor his health, they make sure he stays comfortable and gets all the love he needs.

Thankfully, this kitty is in a much healthier environment and is loving all the petting and attention. Seriously, if you find yourself letting clutter pile up, do your cats – or other animals – a favor and start picking up!
