Last week two baby owls were discovered trapped inside a dumpster. They were only five weeks old and lacked the ability to fly out of their smelly prison. There wasn’t another owl anywhere nearby to help them out. The people who found them called the Phoenix Police Department in an effort to get help for the owls.

The police department decided to call a more qualified organization. They got into contact with the Arizona Humane Society (AHS). After hearing about the situation, Andy Gallo, a representative of AHS, arrived and immediately jumped into the dumpster to free the baby owls.

The owls appeared to be in very good health, which means that more than likely someone purposely tossed them into the dumpster. Bretta Nelson, who manages PR for AHS, said that they will probably never discover the identity of the perpetrator.

She hopes that people come to understand that they can always call for help if they’re unable to care for an animal. The baby owls have been transferred from AHS to their partner organization, Wild at Heart Raptors. Wild at Heart is a rescue, rehabilitation, and release center.

After the owls have been taken care of, grown, and recovered from their ordeal, they will be released back into the wild where they’ll be able to live full and happy lives.
Both AHS and Wild at Heart Raptors do great work for animals, and if you’d like to make a contribution, you can reach out to either organization to offer a donation that will help their causes.
